Guided Visit to Montecassino
Art, religion and history in one of the most ancient monasteries in Italy
It’s difficult to say much which has not been said before about the stunning Monastery of Monte Cassino, completely destroyed during the second world war and completely rebuilt to its original design and is an international symbol of peace.
We can organise a guide, who will explain the history of the site since before the monastery was founded by St. Benedict in 540AD, and into parts of the abbey normally closed to the public - including the cell of St. Benedict - which was one of the only 2 parts of the Abbey NOT destroyed during the bombing.
Afterwards you can visit the War Cemeteries.
Nearby the important Roman ruins at Aquino are also worth visiting.
